Patrol
All Patrol Deputies are licensed by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST). The deputies are a direct representative of the Sheriff. They have taken an oath to uphold the constitution and to protect and serve all people in Crow Wing County,
Responsibilities
The primary job of the patrol deputy is to respond to citizen requests for service for events such as accidents, disputes and traffic complaints. Deputies often respond to emergency medical situations as well since they are trained in First Aid, CPR and the use of a defibrillator. Patrol deputies also conduct proactive activities intended to increase public safety. They serve civil documents and enforce court orders. And, they are charged with the responsibility of conducting the initial investigation of most crimes committed within the county's jurisdiction.
Patrol deputies also have the opportunity to participate in special teams such as the Tactical Response Team and the Bomb Squad. Stringent qualifications, requirements and expectations must be met to maintain a position within these teams.
Training
The Patrol Division trains as an entity on a monthly basis. The training days consist of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements to maintain their license and job essential topics in a wide variety of areas. This helps to ensure the competent, professional delivery of law enforcement services to the public through educated and well trained deputies. Deputies within the Patrol Division are also offered the opportunity to attend out-of-house continued education relevant to their field.
