IMPACT Program

The IMPACT (Inmates Making Positive Advancement Choosing Transformation) Program is designed to teach students (jail inmates) life skills and challenge personal beliefs for self-betterment. The IMPACT Program is the future of corrections. A specialized team of correctional officers (coaches) leads discussions with inmates (students) to assist in reevaluating the way we all think and face challenging situations.

Each student is assigned a coach. Coaches check in with their students each week to track progress. Students follow a strict schedule Monday through Friday with activities such as meditation, organized workouts, two classroom sessions, reflection time, elective programming and more. If students participate in all activities for the week they're presented with a certificate.

Students can join the IMPACT Program at the beginning of a new week. Each week covers a different topic based on a 15-week curriculum. The topics include health and wellness, personal development, employment, time and budget management, personal relationships and conflict resolution 101, personal relationships and conflict resolution 102, basic entrepreneurship, personal leadership, understanding stress, understanding ego, dimensions of wellness, parenting, relationships and support, resiliency and housing. Students can participate in any number of weeks, they are not required to complete all 15 weeks to be part of the program. Up to 30 inmates will be allowed to participate in the program at any one time.

The IMPACT Program is open to any inmate housed in the Crow Wing County Jail. Inmates who are interested in participating in the IMPACT Program need to apply through the kiosks located in each housing unit. Interviews are held Monday through Wednesday evenings. Any questions about this program or application process should be referred to Programs staff.
