Program Details
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children (WIC) is a nutrition and breastfeeding program that helps eligible pregnant women, new mothers, babies and young children.
WIC provides services to participants including:
- One on one nutrition education.
- Breastfeeding education and support.
- Nutritious foods such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables.
- Connections with community resources.
- Referrals to health and other social services.

Crow Wing County WIC is currently offering a blend of in-person and remote services.

If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please contact our WIC office as soon as possible.

Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program
What can a WIC Peer Counselor give you?
- Tips for making plenty of milk for your baby.
- Tips for how to feed your baby comfortably and discreetly, even in public.
- Ways you can stay close to your baby through breastfeeding after you return to work or school.
- Ideas for getting support from your family and friends.
- Help with feeding concerns.
What does a Peer Counselor do?
- Listens to you
- Contacts you during your pregnancy to answer questions about feeding your baby
- Helps you prepare for having a new baby.
- Answers breastfeeding questions or concerns after your baby is born.
- Shows you how to get more help from other health care professionals.

- Who is WIC for?
-
Women who are: Pregnant, breastfeeding, or recently had a baby. You can stay on WIC for 1 year after you baby is born if you are breastfeeding or for 6 months if non breastfeeding. Infants from birth to 1 year or children from 1 year old till to age 5.

- What do I bring to my in-person WIC appointment?

- Proof of Minnesota Residence such as bill or letter addressed to you in the past 30 days.
- Proof of total household income
- Identification: Infants: Crib Card, Birth Commemoration, etc. Children: Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, etc. Adults: Driver’s License, Photo ID, Social Security Card, etc.
- Please have the person or child for whom the appointment is for present at the appointment.
- How can I view my WIC benefits?

- The Minnesota WIC App has many useful features including the ability to view your current and future benefits. You can also use this app to scan items to see if it is WIC-allowed, find WIC allowed stores, view upcoming appointments, and more.
- You can call the phone number on the back of your card or get a receipt print out at a WIC allowed store during your transaction.
