Vaccine Preventable Diseases

Protect yourself and help prevent outbreaks, talk to your doctor about which vaccines are right for you or learn more about immunizations, statistics, childhood and adult vaccine schedules, or getting an immunization if you are uninsured or underinsured.

Access your family's immunization records in the Docket App or find your immunization record at Find My Immunization Record - MN Dept. of Health

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s)

STD testing and treatment can help reduce the spread of STDs. Chlamydia is the most common STI in Minnesota. The highest numbers were reported in teens and young adults age 15–24 years. It is important to have an honest and open talk with your health care provider and ask whether you should be tested.  The CDC has screening recommendations based on age and individual risk factors.

Many STDs have no signs and symptoms, and sometimes the symptoms go away but the STD is still present.  If left untreated, STDs can lead to complications, such as infertility in men and women. It can also lead to pregnancy complications and pelvic inflammatory disease in women.

Preventing illnessesHow to Prevent the Spread of Illness

Cleaning & Disinfection

Choosing a disinfectant can be challenging, not all surfaces are compatible with different disinfectants, and some disinfectants may work great against certain germs, but not others. It is important to read a product’s kill claims and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Use the EPA’s website to find a disinfectant that has been tested for safety and meets your needs.

Cover Your Cough

Covering your cough with your elbow, sleeve, or tissue can help keep others healthy. Wearing a mask, staying home when you are sick, and washing your hands regularly are all ways you can help protect vulnerable members of our community.

Hand Hygiene

Washing your hands regularly with soap and water is the best way to prevent many communicable diseases. Using an alcohol-based hand rub is a great alternative to soap and water when your hands are not visibly dirty.
