Firewood Permits

Any citizen or landowner in Crow Wing County can purchase a permit to cut firewood from designated areas located on county owned lands. Permits will be issued for up to 10 cords for $50. Firewood Permits can be obtained in person at our office.

Regulations

  1. Firewood permits are valid one year from the date of purchase. Only dead or downed timber may be harvested for firewood and no cutting of live trees is allowed. 
  2. All stumps resulting from firewood cutting will not exceed a height of 9 inches above the ground.
  3. No cutting of wood on active timber sales where round wood or logs are stacked and or logging equipment is parked nearby
  4. All wood cutting will be conducted in a manner that will not interfere with other authorized operations.
  5. Use only existing trails. Do not construct any new trails or travel through wetlands to access firewood cutting areas.
  6. Extreme caution must be taken to prevent the obstruction of any public road or forest trail providing access to as a result of the collection firewood. This includes the leaving or placement of branches on said roadways or trails.
  7. The firewood permit allows cutting only in assigned area.  The permit does not guarantee a volume of 10 cords but allows up to 10 cords to be gathered under a single permit.
  8. The firewood permit must be in possession during wood cutting.
  9. All firewood must be removed from County lands. Any wood left or stacked by firewood permit holder, on County lands, is still considered available for anyone with a firewood permit.
  10. Noncompliance of the rules and conditions of a firewood permit may result of the revocation.

Any citizen or landowner in Crow Wing County can purchase a permit to collect decorative materials from designated areas located on county owned lands.
